With a 24-run victory over the Australian team at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia on June 24, Team India has cemented its position in the semi-finals, becoming the third team to do so.
Batting first, India got off to a flying start with Rohit Sharma leading the charge. The Indian captain played a crucial knock, scoring 92 runs off just 41 balls, laying a strong foundation for the team’s total. He hit eight sixes and seven fours during his sparkling knock. Despite Virat Kohli’s early dismissal, Rohit remained unfazed and aggressively targeted pacer Mitchell Starc, smashing 29 runs in his second over, which set the tone for India’s innings.
Chasing the set target, Australia’s batting line-up started off great with Travis Head going strong but ultimately the players faltered under pressure. The loss of wickets after the 13th over kept them on the back foot for the rest of the innings. Prior to that, Australia was in a neck-and-neck competition with India. Australia could only manage 181 runs before their innings came to a close.
India’s bowling attack displayed exceptional control and discipline. Kuldeep Yadav (2/24) performed brilliantly in the middle overs, while Arshdeep Singh ended with figures of 3/37.
With this win, India remain unbeaten in the Super 8 stage and take a giant leap towards securing a spot in the semi-finals. Australia, on the other hand, face an uphill battle to qualify for the semi-finals.
