The game started with India losing Virat Kohli in an early setback in the second over. Post the wicket, Sharma carried a baton and smashed some huge sixes, pushing his and the team’s score beyond fifty. With scoring a fifty in just 19 balls, Rohit became the third-fastest half-centurion in World Cup history for India. The captain led from the front and carried the team on his shoulders along with Rishabh Pant. He hit eight sixes alone.. However, Pant was soon taken out in the 8th over after having scored just 15 runs. Sharma was also sent off by the Australian team in the 12th over.
From there, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube maintained Sharma’s momentum, hitting some big shots, and scored 31 and 28 runs, respectively. What was left after their dismissal was taken up by Hardik Pandya who remained unbeaten till the end of the 20 overs.
