The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has given a green light to the detailed project report (DPR) meant for extending Noida Metro’s Aqua Line corridor from Sector-142 to Delhi Metro’s Botanical Garden station. The move is aimed at enhancing urban mobility.
As per the officials, the Centre is yet to give its approval for the Rs 2,254 crore project.
The proposed extension aims to address the jump in demand for efficient and reliable public transportation.
“This project will not only enhance connectivity but will also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the region,” Lokesh M, Managing Director of NMRC, said.
Project details
This extension project will cost Rs 2,254.35 crore and will include a length of 11.56 kilometres. The project will feature eight new stations: Botanical Garden, Noida Sector-44, Noida Office, Noida Sector-97, Noida Sector-105, Noida Sector-108, Noida Sector-93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College. Additionally, it includes multi-modal integration at various points.
The NMRC chief said with this the commuters will be able to interchange between the Aqua Line and Blue Line (Botanical Garden station) of the Delhi Metro.
He stated that the proposed corridor will offer direct connectivity to Indira Gandhi International Airport via the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line and a seamless commute to major railway stations through the Blue Line.
“This corridor will provide seamless connectivity to all the commuters travelling from Noida and Greater Noida towards Delhi and vice-versa,” he added.
The corridor is anticipated to have an initial ridership of approximately 80,000. The Botanical Garden station will become a major interchange hub, accommodating three stations, he added.
Following this approval, the next crucial step is to forward the DPR to the central government for final approval and funding, according to the senior IAS officer.
