According to India Today, Kalki 2898 AD is projected to earn between Rs 180-200 crore globally during its first weekend. A tweet from Prathyangira Cinemas confirmed the impressive North American premiere earnings, stating, “Kalki 2898 AD NA premieres now fly past the $3.6 MILLION mark as of 8:30 PM PST.”
‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ has reportedly shattered the previous box office record set by SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which earned $3 million from its premiere shows in North America. Prabhas’ latest film has surpassed this milestone, raking in $3.8 million. While RRR was released on 10,200 screens, Kalki 2898 AD premiered on 8,200 screens. The film’s makers proudly shared the news on social media.

Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran sent his best wishes to his Salaar co-star Prabhas. On his Instagram Stories, he shared a poster of Kalki 2898 AD and wrote, “Wishing all the best to this landmark in Indian cinema.”

Prabhas reportedly received Rs 80 crore for his role in this film, significantly lower than his usual Rs 150 crore fee. Meanwhile, his co-stars Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan were each paid Rs 20 crore, as per the report.

Amid the excitement and good early reviews, ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ faced a hurdle in Bengaluru. The film’s IMAX shows were cancelled, making fans who paid for the expensive tickets very angry. One user wrote that they were charged around 1.5K per ticket for IMAX shows & all of a sudden the shows were cancelled before showtime, without prior notice.

Two of the surprise characters in the film are SS Rajamouli and Ram Gopal Verma. Rajamouli and Prabhas’ encounter is a little funny. Prabhas asks, “Aree bahut din baad mile. Agar pakad lia to 5 saal chhodega nahi,” hinting at how Rajamouli blocked him for 5 years for Bahubali. Rajamouli replies, “Iss baar mile to 10 saal kahi jaane ni dooga,” hinting at another master film by the duo.
Filming for ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ commenced in July 2021 at the futuristic set of Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The production continued intermittently over the next three years, concluding in March 2024. With a production budget of Rs 600 crore (US$72 million), it is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
