Finally there is some relief for Delhiites from the scorching heat! Parts of Delhi-NCR received light showers on Thursday morning, bringing much-needed respite from the intense heatwave. Areas including Ghaziabad, Noida, Sarita Vihar, and Munirka among others enjoyed significant downpours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, warning residents of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. This much-needed rain has provided a welcome break from the sweltering temperatures, making life a bit more comfortable for everyone. The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall likely over Maharashtra, Goa, Konkan, Gujarat, and Saurashtra during the next 2-3 days and over Northeast India from June 27 to June 30. Moreover, similar weather conditions are expected to occur over Northwest India from June 28 to June 30.
Southwest monsoon Status
As per IMD’s latest weather bulletin, conditions for the southwest Monsoon are becoming favourable and it is heading into the remaining portions of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Arabian Sea. Within the next 2-3 days, the southwest monsoon is likely to extend its coverage over Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and East and West Uttar Pradesh. It is expected to expand its coverage over Himachal Pradesh, Northern Haryana, northern Punjab, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit, and Jammu Kashmir in a couple of days.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast
A cyclonic circulation has been observed by the Met Department over central Gujarat in the lower and middle tropospheric levels. Under its effect, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated over Coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Konkan on June 27 to June 28, South Karnataka, Mahe, and Kerala will have it on June 27. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are anticipated to experience a wet spell from June 27 to June 30 whereas Vidarbha is likely to get it on June 27 and June 28.
Isolated heavy rainfall is also forecast for Odisha from June 27 to June 28. Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Mizoram are likely to get drenched with heavy rainfall from June 28 to June 30. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to experience it from June 27 to June 30.
Delhi-NCR Weather Update:
The weather Department has predicted that a light to moderate intensity rain accompanied by gusty wind would occur over a few places in Delhi mainly in Lajpat Nagar, Tughlakabad, Alipur, Burari, Shahdara, Lodhi Road, and in NCR. It is expected to have cloudy sky along with thunderstorms from June 27 to July 2.
