As far as motorcycle comparisons go, BSA and Royal Enfield have a history and a battle that’s older than 100 years. Now, with Classic Legends reviving the BSA brand and bringing the famous Gold Star name back, this sparks the competition between the two former British brands. Here’s a quick comparison as to how the two motorcycles compare against each other.
BSA Gold Star vs Royal Enfield Interceptor: Design and features
In terms of design, both motorcycles get a classic retro design that involves an all-metal body. The BSA Gold Star gets a classic round headlight, twin-pod instrument console, telescopic forks, spoked wheels, classic fork guards, full fenders, a flat, single-piece seat, disc brakes on both ends with dual-channel ABS, a USB charger, and a slipper clutch.
Coming to the Royal Enfield Interceptor, the motorcycle features very similar design language but with shorter fenders, giving it a sleeker look. Other components are similar too, apart from the alloy wheels on offer on the Interceptor instead of the spoke wheels the Gold Star gets. So on the design and features front, both are similar.
BSA Gold Star vs Royal Enfield Interceptor: Engine specifications
On the engine front, both motorcycles have a big difference. The BSA Gold Star is powered by a long-stroke 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 45bhp, while the Royal Enfield Interceptor uses a 648cc, air and oil-cooled twin-cylinder engine that makes 47bhp and 52Nm of torque.
Specifications | Goldstar | Interceptor |
Displacement | 652 cc | 648 cc |
Power | 45 bhp | 47 bhp |
Torque | 55 Nm | 52 Nm |
Gearbox | 5-speed | 6-speed |
Weight | 213 kg | 213 kg |
Comparing the specifications on paper, the Royal Enfield has the power advantage while the Gold Star has the torque advantage over the Interceptor. That said, the Interceptor gets a 6-speed gearbox while the Gold Star settles for a 5-speed unit. It will be interesting to see how the two motorcycles fare against each other in the real world. What’s also interesting is their identical weight.
