BMW India is gearing up for its biggest day of the year on July 24. The Bavarian automaker will launch at least four new models in the country which includes luxury sedans, electric crossovers, and electric two-wheelers. Lets us check which models will hit the Indian roads next month.
1. BMW 5 Series LWB
The all-new BMW 5 Series recently broke cover in India in the long wheelbase (LWB) format, making India the first right-hand driven market and second overall to get the 5 Series in LWB version. While BMW is yet to reveal the sedan in its entirety, we already know several crucial details about the luxury saloon.
BMW claims the 5 Series LWB to be the largest sedan in its segment, 5,175mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,520mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,105mm makes it bigger than the upcoming next-gen Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB. In terms of features, it gets a new twin-screen setup housing a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, both running on BMW 8.5 OS.
Other novelties on offer include a four-zone climate control, an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, Level 2 ADAS to name a few. Pre-bookings for the new 5 Series LWB are currently underway at all BMW dealerships and the company’s official website.
2. Mini Cooper S
BMW will launch the fourth-gen Mini Cooper S next month. Pre-bookings for the same opened earlier this month at a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The new-gen Mini Cooper S will get several subtle cosmetic updates over the outgoing model. This includes a larger 9.5-inch round central touchscreen infotainment system with an OLED display, MINI Connected car tech with an Intelligent Personal Assistant, Fisheye In-car Camera, etc.
Powering the new Mini Cooper S will be the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as its predecessor, which now delivers 201 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque, a bump of 26 bhp and 20 Nm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
3. Mini Countryman electric
Along with the Cooper S, Mini will also launch the all-electric derivative of the Countryman in India for the first time. The battery-powered crossover can be pre-booked at a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. Countryman gets a very familiar design with subtle tweaks to distinguish itself from its fossil-fueled sibling. In terms of features, it gets the same set of features as the Mini Cooper S but gets one big addition over the sports hatch in the form of level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Powering the Mini Countryman electric will be a front-mounted electric motor generating 201 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This version of the battery-powered Countryman takes 8.6 seconds to reach 100 kmph from a standstill. Mini also offers a more powerful all-electric variant named Countryman SE ALL4 which dishes out 494 Nm of torque. The base Countryman variant offers a range of 462 km on a single-charge, whereas the more powerful SE version returns a peak single-charge range of 433 km (WLTP).
4. BMW CE 04
BMW Motorrad will launch CE 04 electric scooter on July 24 and will be the first battery-powered two-wheeler from the German brand in India. Powering the CE 04 a 15kW, permanent magnet, liquid-cooled synchronous electric motor which draws energy from a 8.9 kWh battery. This powertrain is said to return a peak range of 130 km on a single charge and can clock a top speed of 120 kmph.
In the USA, BMW retails the CE 04 at USD 12,430 (approx. Rs. 10.38 lakh). Since it is a CBU, we can expect the CE 04 to come at a similar price tag, making it the most expensive scooter in India.
