A High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP), or a High-Security Number Plate, has been in the news for a while now, with traffic authorities making it mandatory for all vehicles to have them. When looking at HSRPs, they look normal, but there’s more to it. Here’s all you need to know about High-Security Registration Plates.
HSRP: What is it?
An HSRP has advanced security features that prevent or deter fraudulent activities. The plates have a unique identification number and a hologram, both of which are related to a vehicle’s registration number directly. This makes it impossible to forge. This deters miscreants from misusing the vehicle or stealing them.
With all these measures, the government is looking to make Indian roads safer and help identify vehicles involved in accidents, and the laser-engraved serial number on the registration plate can be read by ANPR-enabled cameras, making vehicles easier to track if stolen or misused for illegal activities.
HSRP: How to apply?
Getting HSRPs is an easy process. One can visit the ‘siam.in’ website and enter the required details about the vehicle, registration number, engine and chassis number, and proof of address. Once details are entered here, it will direct you to a local vendor depending on the state.
Next, proceed to pay the fees and once done, keep a copy of the receipt. The next step will show the available time slots for you to either go to s government-approved centre to fit the plates or choose home delivery. Please note that whichever option one chooses, a dedicated person from one of the approved centres will come and affix the plates.
HSRP: How to apply for a duplicate?
There will be occasions when the number plate is damaged or stolen. In such scenarios, one can apply for a duplicate or a replacement number plate. To do this, go to the ‘siam’ website again, select replacement booking, and fill in the needed details on registration number, engine and chassis number, and proof of address. Next, proceed to make the payment and then the booking slot.
