Applying for a driving licence has become simple and easy. One does not have to run after agents anymore or pay off unwanted third parties. Getting a driver’s licence can be done from home, or online, however, it will require one to visit the RTO at a point in time. So how is it done? Here’s a detailed guide to applying for a driving licence online.

Before applying for a license, one must have the following documents in place:

  • Form 1 (Certificate of Physical Fitness)
  • Form 1A (Medical Certificate if the applicant is above 40 years of age or for commercial vehicle DL)
  • Form 2 (DL application form)
  • Valid Learner’s Licence
  • Age and address proof
  • Passport-size photographs

  • The Driving Licence applicant must be 18 years of age
  • The applicant must have a valid Learner’s Licence
  • The applicant must appear for a driving test after 30 days of the LL issuance
  • The applicant must clear the driving test
  • The Learner’s Licence should not be older than 6 months from the date of issuance

Steps to apply for a driver’s licence online

To apply for a licence online, visit the Parivahan website, then on the online services menu, choose DL services. Next, choose the state, followed by applying for a Learner’s Licence. Now, fill out the form and upload the required documents, then pay the fees and book a slot. Now, one must appear for the test on the selected day and time and once you clear the exam, a Learner’s Licence will be handed over.

Now, one has to visit the Parivahan website again, and this time, choose the apply for DL option and select ‘Applicant has LL’ option, fill out the form and upload the relevant documents. The next step is to schedule an appointment for 30 days from the issuance of the Learner’s Licence, followed by paying the fees and keeping a copy of the receipt.

Once the selected time approaches, you will have to visit the RTO to give a test, monitored by RTO officials. Once satisfactory, the officer will take your biometrics and clear your test. Your licence will now reach your address via post.
